Our proposal drew its inspiration from organic shapes of timber forests. Its interior space develops itself in an ascending spiral that flows from private galleries to public open spaces.
The shell is composed of three layers of timber assembled in different directions, creating a spiral pattern which becomes a weaving mesh that supports the facade's glass panels. Its shell frames the panoramas of the city and gives the building its distinctive character. Along with its bold volume this glowing timber mesh gives the museum a public dimension and projects its profile as a recognizable icon within the Helsinki bay.
