Located in one of the most emblematic new buildings of the Dubai International Financial Centre this extension to an existing retail space, expands the façade into the existing terrace. A light aluminium structure is used to minimize the visual impact with the existing stone clad tower, matching the grey tone of the exiting window frames. In order to avoid overheating of the space and to provide a more beautiful view towards the terrace to the offices on top of the restaurant, a green roof is constructed. By setting this lightweight synthetic grass build-up one meter from the edge of the canopy, the roof profile is kept at its thinnest, achieving a slim look and providing a landscaped surface on top.
